Exit 1 Piano Lessons is expanding and opening in a new location, with more instruments offered and more teachers.

Clair Susong created the studio in January 2018 on Northfield Drive to bring piano lessons to her community in the Exit 1 area. A couple of years later, the pandemic changed everything.

“Although the pandemic was initially a challenge for teachers and students alike, the introduction of virtual lessons has been a wonderful addition to our studio,” Susong said. “We are happy to offer both in-person lessons to those located in Clarksville, and virtual lessons to those near and far.”

At the beginning of September, Exit 1 Piano will open in their new location, 130 Alfredo Drive, Building 2, Suite C, and with more than double the number of teachers.

Previously, Susong and two other teachers handled the lessons.

For the fall semester, she has hired two more teachers for private lessons and one for a group class. And she’s looking to hire one more to teach violin.

“This semester, we are excited to be able to offer lessons on many different instruments as well as piano,” Susong said.

Instruments available for private lessons this fall include piano, voice, guitar, bass, trumpet, trombone, tuba and saxophone. To sign up, visit the private lessons registration page.

“If you would like private lessons on an instrument that we don’t currently offer, please feel free to still reach out,” she said. “We can try to find a teacher for that instrument to hire, or I can help you find a teacher at a different location in Clarksville.”

Elemental Music class

There’s also an Elemental Music class for children ages 2-6.

“We’re excited to be able to offer our first group class this semester!” Susong said. “The Elemental Music Class is meant to introduce young students to music through play using methods from the Orff Schulwerk approach.”

While it’s open to children as young as 2, Susong said it will be most effective for those who are already speaking.

The Elemental Music class will be offered in two sessions this semester, one starting Sept. 9 and another starting Oct. 16. To sign up, visit the Elemental Music registration page.
