Kenwood High School’s Senior Running Back, Donte’ Mayberry, delivered a stellar performance on the field last week. He ran 239 yards on only 20 carries, as Kenwood defeated Greenbrier 27-7.
“Donte’ is a very hard worker. He is one of the center stones on our team. The kids, they feed off of him and his enthusiasm, and he is just an all-around great student and athlete,” Kenwood Football Coach Gillard said.
“It means a lot, you know?” Mayberry said of being part of Kenwood’s team. “We are working toward something special this year. We’re just grinding on and off the field, and in school. Getting our school work done, working hard at practice, and trying to implement something new into the Kenwood school system.”
When asked about his highlight of the past game, Donte’ said, “I wouldn’t say it’s a highlight for me. I’d say it’s a highlight for the team. We work together as a team. We have been working on a lot of offense, the line blocking and stuff like that. You know that really helped me out last week.”
Donte’ Mayberry’s talent has not just been recognized locally. He already has an offer to play for the UT Martin Skyhawks.
Congratulations to our ESPN Clarksville and Culver’s Athlete of the Week, Donte’ Mayberry.
