CLARKSVILLE, TN – Eric Bittner is being nominated by Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts for appointment by the City Council as the next City Attorney for the City of Clarksville. Upon his confirmation, Bittner would solely assume the role of City Attorney after May 1, succeeding longtime City Attorney Lance Baker who announced that he will retire at that time.
The City Council is scheduled to meet in special session on Tuesday, March 12, 5:30 p.m., in Council Chambers, Public Square, to take up Bittner’s confirmation.
Having practiced law in Clarksville since 1995, Bittner joined the City of Clarksville in July 2021 as Deputy City Attorney. He held that position until February 2023. Since that time, Bittner has served as City Risk Manager in the Human Resources Department.
“I am pleased to nominate Eric Bittner as the next City Attorney for the City of Clarksville,” Mayor Pitts said. “Eric brings a depth and breadth of experience and expertise to this important role in our City government.
“He is the perfect choice to replace our long-serving City Attorney, Lance Baker, and I am confident that Eric will serve the Council, the citizens and our government leaders with distinction and integrity,” Mayor Pitts said. “I look forward to his confirmation by the City Council, and getting to work with Eric to improve our City for everyone,” he said.
Eric and his wife, Rebecca Bittner, have been married since 1991. They have four grown children. He holds a Bachelor of Finance degree from then-Memphis State University (now known as the University of Memphis), and also received his Law Degree from the University of Memphis, in 1995, which was the same year he was admitted to the practice of Law.
Bittner said he looks forward to working with the outstanding employees of the City of Clarksville to facilitate the strategic plan of both Mayor Pitts and the Clarksville City Council. “I am honored to be selected by Mayor Pitts to serve the City of Clarksville in the position of City Attorney,” Bittner said.
“I am confident that I have the necessary experience and knowledge to lead the City of Clarksville’s Legal Department, to address the legal matters that arise within our local municipal government operations,” he said.
