CLARKSVILLE, TN − Hands On, powered by United Way of Greater Nashville, needs volunteers to help Clarksville Area Urban Ministries assist local clients during the cold months. Daily shifts will be from Jan. 16 through March 8, 7:15 p.m.-11 p.m.

Volunteers will be asked to:

  • Clean up after dinner is served.
  • Help clients with hygiene items.
  • Sign in new clients if they come in.

Urban Ministries is operating the only Emergency Warming Shelter for homeless clients in Montgomery County during extreme cold weather. “By operating this shelter, we are saving lives and preventing people from freezing,” organizers said.

The shelter at Madison Street UMC Gymnasium, 300 Commerce St., is open seven days a week, from 3 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., for as long as the overnight temperatures are below freezing.
