CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Freezing temperatures this week have caused the emergency warming shelter at the Burt Cobb Community Center in Clarksville to nearly reach capacity.
The shelter opened Sunday afternoon and Kenny York with Manna Café Ministries said they had between 35-40 people Sunday night, which increased to about 45 people Monday night.
York said the shelter was down to only about five beds available on Tuesday morning.
Plans are for the shelter to remain open through Wednesday night and it will close down Thursday with temperatures expected to warm up with overnight lows around 39.
Manna Café and the City of Clarksville partnered to open Burt Cobb on Franklin Street during the severe cold snap with volunteers who worked around the clock. They would like to thank all of the volunteers in the community who offered their help for those in need.
