MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Montgomery County recently received $28,209 in federal funds through Phase 36 of the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program.

The program is part of an initiative by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The selection was made by the National Board, which is chaired by the DHS Federal Emergency Management Agency. The Local Board, chaired by United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region, includes representatives from local government, human service organizations and faith communities.

The Local Board is charged with distributing funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs run by local service agencies and will recommend agencies to receive part of the funds.

Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must meet the following criteria:

  • Be private, voluntary non-profits or units of government
  • Be eligible to receive federal funds
  • Have an accounting system
  • Practice nondiscrimination
  • Have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs
  • If they are a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board

Qualifying organizations my pick up applications at a Local Board meeting on December 2 2019 at 1 p.m. at the United Way office (107 Jefferson Street, Suite 107 Clarksville, Tn).
