Elaine Longhurst, age 81, of Guthrie, KY, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at her residence.
Elaine was born on April 7, 1942 in Clarksville, TN to the late Charles Greer and Marion Coe Greer. Elaine is also preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Longhurst Jr. and brother, Perry Coe Greer.
Elaine is survived by her sons, Russ (Christina) Longhurst and Glen Longhurst; grandchildren, Jaxon, Brooke, and Will Longhurst.
A funeral service for Elaine will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev. Chad McCabe officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, October 2, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Neal Tarpley Parchman Funeral Home and Tuesday, October 3, 2023, from 12:00 PM until the hour of service at the church. Burial to follow directly after the service at Highland Cemetery in Guthrie, KY.
Pallbearers will be: Jimmy Turner, Ray Wheeler, Scott Marshall, Henry “Boogie” Oliver, Wilson Sisk and Jaxon Longhurst.
Upon graduation from Clarksville High School, Elaine earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Arts in Education from Austin Peay State University. Elaine served her community as a teacher at Ft. Campbell High School, Guthrie Elementary School, and Todd County Middle School. Elaine was a lifelong servant of the community that included: board member of the Todd County Library, board member of the Guthrie Community Lending Library, board member and treasurer of Todd County Housing Authority, 50-year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, committee member and treasurer of the Robert Penn Warren Birthplace Museum. Elaine will be known for her elaborate rose gardens and her service as the president of the Les Candides Garden Club. Her artistry was not only in the garden but was also prevalent in her cross stitch and needlework. Elaine will be fondly remembered and greatly missed at Clarksville Trinity Episcopal Church, where she was a lifelong member and actively involved in various church ministries. Her commitments to her family, friends and community were always blessings in Elaine’s life.
