CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Five years ago, educator Katobwa Stallworth, Principal and Founder of Power and Grace Preparatory Academy opened the Christian school in Clarksville which after closing in March because of the pandemic has reopened classes.

Like with everything else these days, COVID-19 has affected the school and Stallworth said right now they have about 45 students but before the pandemic they had close to 70 children.

The school has all of the safety protocols in place including temperature checks before entering the building, the wearing of masks and shields, available hand sanitizer, and practicing social distancing.

The great news is the future is looking very bright for Power and Grace Academy with plans underway as they lay the groundwork for some amazing growth.

Currently, Power & Grace Academy features Pre-K through the 5th Grade and Stallworth says being able to expand would allow the school to step up to the 8th grade which was part of their mission and vision before starting the school.

The school is also looking at expanding their STEAM and STEM programs which is part of their science curriculum.  Stallworth said they would also like to grow educational opportunities in their performing arts and foreign language.

Virtual education at Power and Grace is taking place in real time. “Students will go through their usual day with their classmates and we won’t do any pre-recording. We found that to be easier for our teachers, so we’ve equipped each classroom with webcams,” Stallworth said.

For their future growth, Stallworth said they have partnered with a generous individual who is willing to sell a parcel of land and building valued at around $3 million, for $1.3 million.

The location is the site of the old Union Carbide facility on Highway 79 in north Montgomery County.  The bank is working with and supporting the school, but they will have to raise $285,000 to move forward.

The board of directors for Power and Grace has approved hiring a capital campaign organization, the J.F. Smith Group to help with fundraising efforts and Stallworth said they are hoping to have their planning solidified by January 2021.

“I want people to know that Power and Grace is a safe, Christian based school with educational excellence.  We have attained national accreditation for not only our K-5th grade, but also our Pre-K and we are the only ones who have that designation in the City of Clarksville,” said Stallworth.

Stallworth describes education as the antidote to ignorance, the champion of hope, the weight that can level the scales of justice, and the fuels that can take a rocket of dreams to pouter space.
