HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – The Hopkinsville 2017 Eclipse committee will host a program featuring eclipse-viewing expert Dan McGlaun.
The discussion is free to the public and will be held at 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 24 in the Hopkinsville Community College Auditorium Lecture Hall.
According to Eclipse Committee member and HCC Math/Science Professor Jim Hunter, Mr. McGlaun will share his experiences of past eclipses and give the local community an idea of what to expect during the 2017 eclipse that is set to pass through Christian County on August 21, 2017.
Dan McGlaun is a veteran eclipse chaser, having experienced totality ten times since his first eclipse in 1991. His eclipse excursions have taken him to the remote desolation of sub-Saharan Africa, the desert near the Turkish-Syrian border, a tiny sparsely-populated atoll in the South Pacific, on a flight over the North Pole, the Taj Mahal and the Great Pyramids of Giza!
Mr. McGlaun has worked directly with some of the most respected eclipse chasers in the world, contributing modest efforts toward the furtherance of automated eclipse photography and videography as well as the mathematics of eclipse predictions.
He manages and maintains “Eclipse2017.org, Inc.” with the primary goal of promoting the safe and enjoyable viewing of the August 21, 2017 eclipse in the United States.
By profession, Mr. McGlaun is a Project Manager for a Fortune 500 organization, specializing in Information Management conversions and consolidations related to top-tier mergers and acquisitions within the Financial and Banking industries.
He matriculated at Purdue University, and gained an educational background in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Electrical Engineering. He holds a High School-level teacher’s license for Math, and is actively involved in private math tutoring for students at all levels. He is also a contract editorial reviewer for many mathematical publications within the famous “…for Dummies” series of instructional materials.
