CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Tennessee State Parks are hosting a series of volunteer events in September as part of First Lady Maria Lee’s Monthly Service Challenge through her Tennessee Serves Initiative. Clarksville’s own Dunbar Cave State Park will hold a volunteer workday on September 28 as part of the program.

“There are many ways to serve, and our parks are providing great ways to participate in this effort,” First Lady Lee said. “We are grateful to all Tennesseans who are putting their time and energy into serving others.”

“We appreciate the first lady’s commitment to service and we are eager to do our part,” said Jim Bryson, deputy commissioner for the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. “Tennessee is the Volunteer State, and there are a lot of opportunities to serve in Tennessee State Parks.”

Individual parks across the state will host service opportunities for all ages and skill levels. Those may include activities such as landscaping, invasive plant removal, litter pickup and trail maintenance.

Dunbar Cave will hold its volunteer work day on September 28 from 8 a.m-1 p.m. Park staff seeks assistance removing invasive plants in wooded areas as part of their Southeastern Grasslands Initiative. Participants are asked to wear gloves and bring water to stay hydrated. Tools will be provided.

Those interested in participating in the workday, or other workdays at Dunbar Cave State Park, can visit them online and register.
