CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The construction taking place on the Dunbar Cave Road bridge will finally come to an end, as the project is moving tentatively into its final stages, allowing for the road to reopen as soon as this weekend.
The bridge replacement project and road closure on Dunbar Cave Road initially began on Sept. 1, and the contract called for completion in 45 workdays.
The target completion date was Nov. 2, however an additional two weeks were needed to make up for the inclement weather days.
City spokesman Henry Kilpatrick tells Clarksville Now that the Tennessee Department of Transportation, which has taken the lead on this project, have begun clearing up the surrounding area to make way for Clarksville’s Street Department to begin paving over the new bridge.
The paving is the last step, as the new bridge has already been replaced with a new box culvert. The project, which was contracted out to Concrete Structures of Charlotte, costed the city an estimated $517,500.
Funding was supplied by TDOT, and the bridge’s design and construction are being managed by the Clarksville Street Department.
Kilpatrick estimates the Street Department will begin paving on Thursday or Friday of this week, allowing for the road to re-open either this Saturday or the following Monday.
However, this is plan and estimation is tentative, and will be completely reliant upon the weather among other factors the Clarksville Street Department considers when sending workmen out to complete construction projects.
