MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A man was arrested Saturday after police said he nearly hit a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputy with his vehicle while fleeing a traffic stop.

According to an arrest warrant, MCSO was working a crash with Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP)at the intersection of Highway 149 and Highway 48 when the suspect failed to stop after a deputy smelled marijuana coming from his vehicle.

Police said the suspect, 35-year-old Joshua Hamilton, ignored the deputy’s commands and turned onto Highway 49, nearly striking the deputy with his vehicle in the process. The deputy was able to jump out of the way.

Hamilton ran a stop sign and a red light before losing control and crashing his vehicle at the intersection of Cumberland Drive and Hillwood Drive.

Police were then able to take Hamilton into custody. He had bloodshot eyes and admitted to smoking marijuana but refused a blood test.

The arrest warrant says police searched Hamilton’s vehicle and found a backpack containing heroin, psilocybin mushrooms, MDMA, LSD, ecstasy, marijuana, steroids, and drug paraphernalia.

He was charged with possession for resale, felony evading, reckless driving, aggravated assault, and DUI.
