Update, 6:15 p.m.: Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies were engaged in the pursuit, and they have the driver and passenger in custody, according to spokeswoman Sandra Brandon.
Traffic is continuing to clear through the area but remains backed up.

Update, 5:30 p.m.: Traffic is getting worse: Northbound on Providence/Second Street is backed up to College Street. Kraft Street is backed up past Eighth Street. Riverside Drive is backed up past Main Street.
Update, 5:15 p.m.: Northbound traffic on Providence and Second Street is backed up to Marion Street. Kraft Street is backed up to Ladd Drive. Riverside Drive traffic is backed up past McGregor Park.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A suspect fled after wrecking his car during a police pursuit on Providence Boulevard Thursday afternoon.
At about 4:45 p.m., police were chasing a car northbound on Providence when the car crashed into a utility pole and a black SUV that was sitting in traffic, according to a witness.
The driver got out of the car and fled into the neighborhood behind the Washtopia car wash near Locust Street, the witness said.
Northbound traffic was shown blocked and at a standstill from the crash site to the other side of Riverside Drive.
Clarksville Police could not be immediately reached for comment.
