Although summer is almost over, there is time to enjoy the cool breeze as we celebrate Dr. Jerry Jerkins Day. Local choirs and speakers will be on hand Sept. 24 to honor the late Dr. Jerry Jerkins‘ legacy.

Jerkins, retired pastor of St John Baptist Church, was a civil rights leader who led marches and was responsible for the opening of many opportunities in Clarksville. He is survived by his wife Naomi Jerkins and four children, Jackie, Jennifer, Jeffery and Gerald Jerkins.

The public is invited to the event at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at New Jerusalem Fivefold Ministries, 1313 Crossland Ave. The program will consist of musical groups and speeches. Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts will make a presentation.
