CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – National Farmers Market Week is August 2-8, 2015. In celebration, the Clarksville Downtown Market will feature a free concert by Lydia Walker on Saturday, August 8 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Public Square.

Farmers markets are more than just an outlet for fresh produce and friendly farmers. According to United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) statistics, these grassroots venues have increased in number by over 60% since 2009 to nearly 8,500 today.

These markets preserve farmland, stimulate local economies, increase access to fresh nutritious food, improve community health, and promote sustainability. For example, growers selling locally create thirteen full time farm operator jobs per $1 million in revenue earned while those that do not sell locally only create three. TN is home to over 154 farmers markets listed on Pick TN Products.

The Clarksville Downtown Market began in 2009, and currently has over 60 vendors featuring fresh produce, baked goods, artists and crafters, musicians and more.

“Our vendors is what makes the Clarksville Downtown Market number 1 in Tennessee, they provide the best products in the area,” said Robert Rayburn, Market Manager. “Building relationships with the vendors is what makes a Farmers Market and being able to witness that every Saturday is the best feeling. Please make sure that you come out this Saturday to show them your support.”
