INDIAN MOUND, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Humane Society of Dover-Stewart County has offered a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect wanted for fatally shooting a dog.

A spokesperson for the group said the initial reward was set at $300 but has since been raised to $600.

The dog’s owner, Jonathan Crockarell, said he lives in Indian Mound and works in Clarksville. His dog, Murphy, ran away from home last Wednesday night and by Thursday morning had not been found. After dropping his children off at school, Crockarell said he spotted Murphy behind a fence and went to retrieve him.

Murphy was covered in blood and Crockarell took him to the vet. An x-ray showed that Murphy had been shot with a .22 caliber bullet as well as a pellet. He died later that evening from his injuries.

Both Crockarell and the Humane Society spokesperson said other residents in the area have reported similar occurrences over the past year. It is unclear if the shootings involve the same suspect.

The Stewart County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crockarell at 931-980-2477.
