Douglas Shade Schrum, age 56, of Cumberland Furnace, TN, passed away Friday, November 21, 2014 at his residence.

Douglas was born December 8, 1957 in Hammond, IN, to the late Douglas Shade Schrum, Sr. and Josephine Saunders Blackwell. He was also preceded in death by brother David Schrum and two sisters, Denine and Sabrina Schrum.

Mr. Schrum retired from the US Army as a sergeant first class. During his tenure, he served in Desert Storm and was a member of the American Legion. Douglas proudly worked at the White House as driver for Chief of Staff, Leon Panetta. He possessed a wide array of skills, including mechanics. Douglas was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, with Pastor Bob Niles officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the hour of service Wednesday at the church.

Douglas is survived by his wife, Pamela Schrum of Cumberland Furnace; son, Michael Schrum of Hamlet, IN; two step-sons, Chad Malley of Florida and Matthew Malley of Malone, NY; daughter, Dana Schrum-Helton of Clarksville; step-daughter, Jennifer Steenberge of Plattsburgh, NY; half-brother, Sean Blackwell; sister, Charlene Schrum; twelve grandchildren, including Kalen Royal, Kai Helton, and Mike Crabb; and great-grandchild, Ryker Kaden Crabb.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 223 8th Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37203.
