Dorothy Cornell Fort, 102, of Clarksville, TN, went to be with Jesus on Sunday, August 14, 2016, at her Dogwood Bend home.
Dorothy was born on July 9, 1914, in Montgomery County, TN to the late Gerald Morton Cornell and Gillian Waters Cornell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Fort, Jr. and two sisters, Catherine Alcock and Emma Mai Palmore.
Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Clarksville Grace Chapel with Dr. John David Laida and Dr. Felts Dent officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 15, 2016, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home and Tuesday, August 16, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
Dorothy was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Clarksville for 56 years, where she taught Sunday School and played the piano for several Sunday School Classes. She was also a member of Women on Missions and Volunteer for the Good Samaritan Medical/Dental Ministry. She was a longtime volunteer at Clarksville Memorial Hospital and Gateway Medical Center, where she was active on the board. She was a longtime member of the Farm Bureau Women and Ringgold Home Demonstration Club.
The Fort Family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Dogwood Bend Assisted Living and AseraCare Hospice to include Nancy Telford, Tammy Coffman, April Towe, Byron Dumas, and Susan Thompson for the exceptional care given to Ms. Fort for the past several years.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Bob (Velda) Fort of Clarksville, TN.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Graber, Joe Giles, Kirk Walker, Bernard Palmer, Frank Gee, Jim Nichols, and Mike Barbee. Honorary pallbearers will be Employees of Dogwood Bend Assisted Living and members of the Women on Missions of First Baptist Church of Clarksville.
