CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A rescue effort took place Tuesday, August 12 that involved a local dog and her owner as well as members of the Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department, Montgomery County Animal Control and Adoption, and Dr. Harry Markham with Pet Calls Mobile Veterinary Clinic.
William Humphrey with the recreation department talked to Clarksvillenow.com and explained what happened. Humphrey said a lady was walking her dog around 9:00 Tuesday morning at McGregor Park when three of the Great Dane’s paws got stuck in the grating of the ramp that leads down to the boat dock.
Humphrey said a number of people nearby including a man in a boat tried to help the dog and then contacted the Parks & Recreation Department who also tried to free the animal, but as the dog struggled to get her paws out they began to swell up.
Dr. Markham was called to sedate the dog, which then allowed the vet to free her paws from the grating. Dr. Markham said they transported the animal in their mobile vet clinic to her home with just a few minor injuries to the pads on her paws.
A number of recreation department employees including Steve Negron, Steven Childers, Gary Harp, and Mary Hargrove along with Humphrey responded to the call of the trapped dog. Humphrey said he would also like to thank the many citizens who stopped to offer their help during the dog rescue.
