CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Montgomery County Animal Control and a nearby rescue are searching for answers after they discovered a dog with multiple bullet wounds and signs of long-term abuse.
The Great Pyrenees (now named Marshall) was brought to Big Fluffy Dog Rescue this week after he was picked up by Montgomery County Animal Control near Hwy 48 on May 19 and taken to a local veterinarian for care.
Marshall was then placed with Big Fluffy by a volunteer at Animal Control.
Because of the dog’s long hair, rescuers at Big Fluffy did not even know the extent of his injuries until he was prepped for surgery. Marshall’s neck had been burned, was covered with lacerations, and was emaciated. He also had multiple bullet wounds, some from a large caliber gun.
Marshall lost his entire back leg and hip due to infection and gangrene that spread through his body.
Animal Control Director Jeanette Farrell said it was clear that the dog had suffered long-term abuse and that many of the wounds were not knew.
Big Fluffy Dog Rescue believes Marshall was tortured and wants anyone with information to come forward.
“There is a monster in Montgomery County, TN, and that monster is still out there. I know someone, somewhere, must know something about this dog,” the Facebook post said.
Marshall is recovering from surgery but will still need additional care. Big Fluffy Dog Rescue said the public can make donations through a PayPal account.
Farrell said about seven people have come forward so far claiming to be Marshall’s owner. However, officials do not believe any of these individuals are the true owner.
Anyone with information about what happened to Marshall can contact Montgomery County Animal Care and Control at 931-648-5750.
