CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Montgomery County Animal Care and Control (MCAC) recently investigated five separate cases of animal cruelty/abuse. The cases are as follows:
Woodlawn Road – On June 9 at 11 p.m., the on-call Animal Control officer received a call from the Sheriff’s Office regarding an injured Husky-type dog that had been shot with a shotgun and had multiple wounds. The dog was transported to Animal House for treatment. Animal Control is asking for assistance to find the owner of the dog, which is currently being held at Animal Control. Call 931-648-5750.

Needmore Road – On June 12, Animal Control responded to a call of two dead dogs left outside. Upon arrival, the Animal Control Officer found both dogs on chains in the backyard. Neither dog had access to shelter, shade, or water and the heat index was above 90 degrees. Both bodies were transported to Nashville for a necropsy to determine cause of death. Animal Control is meeting with the District Attorney’s office regarding criminal charges of animal cruelty.

Carpenter Street – On June 10, Sango Veterinary Hospital contacted the on-call Animal Control Officer regarding a puppy that had two deep, severe slashes on each side of its body. The puppy was found tied to a pole with twine by good Samaritans on Carpenter Street and was immediately taken to Sango Vet for emergency surgery. Upon performing x-rays of the 17-week-old puppy it was also determined that the puppy had eight previously fractured ribs that were healing. The puppy is currently healing in foster care. If anyone recognizes this severely abused puppy, please contact Animal Control immediately at 931-648-5750.
Drake Road – On May 24, the on-call Animal Control Officer responded to the area of Drake Rd. Two juvenile boys saw three German shepherd puppies being thrown from an older black, square body type pickup truck. One German shepherd puppy was thrown from the window of the truck, then the man in the truck slowed down and kicked the other two puppies out of his truck. All three puppies were taken to Eastview Veterinary Hospital. One puppy had two broken legs and a broken back and was subsequently euthanized. The other puppies were unharmed. Trenton Road – On June 13, Animal Control was on routine patrol and found a three-month-old puppy tethered outside in direct sunlight with no access to shade, shelter, or water. The puppy’s tether was tangled on some wooden pieces. A ‘no-one home notice’ was left and the puppy was placed in Animal Control’s care until the owner could be identified.
