WASHINGTON, D.C. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Department of Defense announced the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

They died Nov. 12 of injuries sustained from an improvised explosive device in Bagram, Afghanistan.

The soldiers were assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Special Troops Battalion, 1st Sustainment Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Killed were Sgt. John W. Perry, 30, of Stockton, California and Pfc. Tyler R. Iubelt, 20, of Tamaroa, Illinois.

Two American contractors were also killed. Another 16 U.S. service members and one Polish soldier were wounded.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, which they said was carried out by a suicide bomber inside the base. The Taliban regularly fire rockets at the base north of Kabul from outside its perimeter.
