FORT CAMPBELL, KY. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) It was an awesome sight Wednesday morning as 20,000 Screaming Eagle soldiers took to the streets of Fort Campbell for the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Division Run. The four mile trek was led by Major General Andrew Poppas, the Commanding General of the 101st and Fort Campbell. It was one of the first scheduled events of the 75th Anniversary Celebration for the 101st which goes through August 26.
Family members lined the streets and cheered the soldiers as they passed by. Helicopters flew overhead throughout the run, cannons fired for each unit as they ran by, and the Fort Campbell Fire Department provided a cooling effect with a continuous light spray of water at one point along the route.
