CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The folks at Bi-County Solid Waste Management have a reminder for all of the local businesses when it comes to fluorescent light bulbs and that message is simply please dispose of them properly.
If your business has 10 or more employees, owns or maintains a building at least 3,000 square feet or meets any of the other three described in the Mercury Disposal Control Act, it is illegal to throw away fluorescent light bulbs or other mercury-added disposal projects.
Pete Reed, Director of Bi-County Solid Waste Management talked about disposing of controlled items. “The State of Tennessee has required that the landfill be mercury free. Thermostats, light bulbs and other items identified under the mercury disposal act, have proper proposal procedures,” said Reed.
Bi-County Solid Waste Management can help you properly and legally dispose of your light bulbs. Call 931-648-5751 for more information and help. Also, for a list of companies outside the community that can accept the bulbs check at the bottom of the tn.gov website.
If you have a private residence, the fluorescent light bulbs can be disposed of at Lowes or Home Depot.
