Diane Roland Welker, a Clarksville food writer and celebrated local chef, has died at 65. Welker, who wrote a food column for The Leaf-Chronicle for 20 years, passed away on Aug. 12.
After several years of her recipes being published as part of local cooking contests, Welker began writing her cooking column in 1997. The column, later called “At the Table,” continued for 20 years until 2017. She was featured as a cook several times at the Rivers & Spires Festival, and for a time she turned At the Table into a cooking website.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Diane Roland Welker, a beloved well-accomplished woman, friend, and exceptional cook. who touched the lives of many with her warmth, compassion, and sparkling spirit. Born on the 4th of July like fireworks, she shown brightly, boldly, and freely.
Diane was born July 4, 1958, in Lincoln, NE, the oldest of 6 children, and she peacefully departed this world at her home in Clarksville, TN, surrounded by friends. Diane’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and resilience. She excelled in business and communication. Friends and family remember her as consistently demonstrating an open and encouraging spirit with a smile and a helping hand. Diane leaves a lasting impact on both her community and those fortunate enough to have known her. Diane’s unwavering dedication to non-profits made her an inspiration to all. Whether she was volunteering, hosting dinner parties, or emceeing events her commitment to making the world a better place shone brightly. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, writing, gardening, and time with friends. Everyone who knows her will forever cherish the memories they shared together. Diane’s memory will be carried on by her loved ones, as they continue to embody the values and principles she held dear.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman with visitation on Thursday, August 31 from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. and from noon to the time of the service on Friday. Remember Diane by making a contribution to the charity of your choice in her name. Diane Roland Welker’s presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of all those who were fortunate to have known her. She was a sister, a mom, and a loyal friend. May she rest in peace.
