Update, 11:25 a.m.: The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has ended the active search for the suspect, although there will be increased law enforcement in the area throughout the day, Delaney said.

A large amount of drugs, including methamphetamines and marijuana, was found in the car, and the investigation has been turned over to the 19th Judicial Drug Task Force.

Update, 10 a.m.: The suspect remains at large, according to MCSO.

Update, 8:05 a.m.: During the chase, the suspect lost some time by trying to run another car off of the highway.

At about 4:45 a.m., Marci Hammers was driving to work, going east on Dover Road/Highway 79 just past the Montgomery County line, when she saw blue lights in the distance behind her, and a car flew up behind her, putting on its high beams.

Hammers told Clarksville Now she took off her cruise control and slowed down, figuring he would go around her with two eastbound lanes. Instead, he rode next to her and then tried to run her off the road and into the guardrail, she said. She braked and he braked, so she slammed on her brakes and stopped.

She saw the blue lights come up over a hill, and apparently he did as well, and he drove off.

“I don’t know what he was thinking, but he scared the heck out of me,” she said.

He turned left at a cut-through, and the deputy followed, then he turned again, and the chase resumed on Dover Road toward Clarksville.

Hammers said it was still dark out, and all she could tell was that it was a possibly gray, sporty car.

She said he’d probably have stayed well ahead of the deputy if he hadn’t lost time trying to run her off the road. “He should have left me out of it,” she said.
