CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Following the shooting during a football game at West Creek High School on Friday, deputies made a “high-risk traffic stop” and took three people into custody, ages 16, 17 and 18.

The incident started with a report of suspicious activity in the school parking lot, according to Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Mark Wojnarek. Deputies working at the game responded.

One of the suspects then fired a shot from a handgun while leaving the parking lot. The suspects tried to flee, but deputies were able to identify their vehicle and make a high-risk traffic stop, taking the three suspects into custody, Wojnarek said.

The weapon, which was fired by the 16-year-old, was also recovered.

None of the suspects attended school within the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System. Investigators continue to process evidence, comb through witness statements, and process new information, Wojnarek said.

“Thanks to the quick action and response that we had to this incident, we have these three identified, and with what information that we have so far, they have been appropriately charged,” said Sheriff John Fuson. “Our investigation is still ongoing. Our investigators will determine what transpired prior to these shots being fired, locate any additional suspects, and appropriately charge them as well.

“We have been and will continue to be relentless in our preparedness for and response to any violent act on school property. Examples need to be made of anyone who places our schools, students, and staff in danger. I intend to ensure that this is what occurs with this incident.”

All three have been charged:

  • The 18-year-old was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
  • The 16-year-old was charged with aggravated assault, two counts of reckless endangerment, and one count of carrying a weapon on school property.
  • The 17-year-old was charged with one count of accessory after the fact.

This investigation may lead to additional charges filed against these or other subjects.
