CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Three sisters were able to show off their skills at Riverfest’s Recycled Fashion Show thanks to the help of their father overseas.

Christopher George is currently stationed in Kuwait, but he does not let the distance stop him from connecting with his children. Maisy (13), Hailey (10), and Olivia (9) created costumes made of recyclable materials for the contest, and their dad contributed by collecting bottle caps for Olivia’s costume.

“This is our third year, and he always gets involved,” said the girls’ mother, Amber George. “It’s a family thing for us. And this year he heard we were trying to get bottle caps together and he sent a collection.”

The girls worked hard to perfect their costumes and each was recognized with a prize in the competition. Hailey won the children’s division with her inventive garden hose dress.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation held the competition at this year’s Riverfest to encourage recycling both at the festival and within the community year-round. The George family recognizes the necessity of recycling and conservation and they do what they can to keep the Earth clean.

“It is something they are very conscious of. It’s not all trash to them anymore,” Amber said. “I’m proud of the fact that they’re conscious of what comes from where. They are all very creative.”
