CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Silke Tyler’s homemade breads are popular among those with savvy taste buds – they are sold from here to Nashville and beyond. But her Evening with the Artists events are also popular among those with good taste – for art, music and food.

When Tyler throws these free celebrations – which are open to the public – she lines the walls of Silke’s Old World Breads, Bakery and Café with art and brings in Red River Breeze to play the music. Then she fills the tables in the Stammtisch room with breads, lunchmeats, and cheese plates, a salad plate, dips, pizzas and pastries. It’s a smorgasbord for the senses.

From 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 18, guests are invited to Silke’s Old World Breads, Bakery and Café at 1214-A College Street for Evening with the Artists. And for this reception, “Into the Old World,” there’s a twist: The main art featured will be Tyler’s photos.

Born in Germany, Silke Tyler began her journey as a photographer and painter in 1986 with the purchase of her first 35mm camera and watercolor paints during her college studies. In addition to photography, she has also pursued graphic design and watercolor. She particularly enjoys the computer editing tools available for use with modern photography.

While Tyler has been busy operating her popular bakery for more than a decade, she got away to visit cities in Germany and Italy last summer. Naturally, she brought her camera along as she toured the charming cities of Tuscany, Italy and Baunach, Germany.

“I got to walk the streets in these ancient towns this summer,” she said. “My goal was to bring that feeling of historic beauty out in my photos.”
She met that goal. And when guests of Evening with the Artists arrive at Silke’s Old World Breads, Bakery and Café, they will witness those Old World visions in New World color and drama.
