CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) It’s a big political year in Montgomery County with the County Primary May 1, the State Primary and County General Election August 2, and State General and City of Clarksville Election November 6.

The deadline to register to vote for the May 1 Republican and Democratic County Primary is Monday, April 2. According to Montgomery County Administrator of Elections Elizabeth Black there is a roll of about 102,000 registered voters.

REGISTRATION ASSISTANCE: Election Commission open March 24 to help voters

Black said voter turnout in the last two elections has been very low. In the August 2016 election only seven percent of registered voters cast their ballots. The August 2014 election had the same offices that will appear on the ballot this year and only 20 percent of those who were registered voted.

Offices on the Montgomery County Primary Ballot May 1 are County Mayor, County Commission (all districts), Trustee, Sheriff, Circuit Court Clerk, County Clerk and Register of Deeds. Early voting for the May 1 County Primary is scheduled for April 11-April 26.

Black said the Clarksville-Montgomery County School Board is a county office but will not be on the May 1 ballot because the school board is exempt from the primary. School board districts 1, 3, 5 and 7 will be on the August 2 ballot and the deadline for qualifying to run for those school board posts is April 5.
