Davis Walker Harris, age 78, of Clarksville, passed away Friday, March 27, 2020, at his residence.
Davis was born December 6, 1941, in Germantown, PA, to the late Clarence Harris, Jr. and Eleanor Lucas Harris. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Harris; and sister, Debbie Tucker.
Mr. Harris was a retired US Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam era and completed 24 years of service. During his tenure, he received many military commendations, including the Army Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Army Commendation Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), the Meritorious Service Medal, and many other military and civilian accolades. He began is civil service career as a Mortuary Affairs Officer in 1985, providing mortuary affairs services to countless Soldiers and their families for 23 years. Davis’ service totaled 47 years, and he will always be remembered for his selfless service to others.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, April 3, at 12:00 PM, at the Chapel of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home. A private burial will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West, in Hopkinsville. Visitation will be Thursday, April 2, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at the funeral home.
Davis is survived by his wife of 20 years, Winona Potts Harris; son, Davis (Monique) Harris, Jr.; stepson, Jabari Grant; brother, Vincent Harris; sister-in-law, Dr. Martha Bellamy; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
