Dr. David Allen Rice, 75, of Clarksville, TN passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016, at his home.
David was born on August 8, 1940 in Ironton, OH to James Allen Rice and Imogene Ray Rice, both deceased. He received his B.S.in mechanical and metallurgical engineering from The University of Michigan and went on to receive his Masters and PhD in metallurgical engineering from the University of Michigan and The Colorado School of Mines, respectively. He achieved the rank of Captain in the US Air Force.
David was President and CEO of Jersey Miniere Zinc, later Savage Zinc, and became CEO of Sun Metals of Townsville, Australia where he and his wife Carol lived for 3 years before returning to Clarksville.
An avid pilot and traveler, David and Carol visited all seven continents.
David is survived by his wife, Carol Joan Rice of Clarksville, TN; two sons, Craig David Rice of Boulder, WY and Glenn Allen Rice of New York City, NY; brother, James Richard Rice and his wife Diane of Minnesota; sister, Lynn Cortina of Ecuador; and two grandchildren, Eloise Leslie Rice and Jack Hugh Rice.
A casual gathering for family, friends and associates will be held at the family home on Saturday, June 11th from 1-4 PM to celebrate his life. Light food and drinks will be served.
