Cyril Dominic “C.D.” Merkling, age 92, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2020.
A Catholic Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Service times will be announced.
He will be laid to rest at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Air Force Honors will be rendered.
C.D. entered into this life on May 31, 1928 in Lastrup, Minnesota to the late Frank and Josephine Block Merkling. As a young man, C.D. entered into active duty service with the United States Air Force. Following a 20 year military career and attaining the rank of Master Sergeant, he went on to work for the United States Postal Service. Again, C.D. retired after 20 years with the downtown Nashville Post Office.
C.D. was a longtime and active member of the Loyal Order of the Moose where he served as Governor and also was an avid and accomplished fisherman. He was a crack shot with a pool stick and had a quick hand while playing cards – he had loads of fun playing both pool and cards through the years.
C.D. was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Merkling, and his daughters, Nancy Merkling, Jane Merkling, and Allyson Todd. Survivors include his loving wife, Nancy Harper Stephenson Merkling; daughter Cathy Lynn Williams; his children by marriage, Jeff, Scott, and Sandra Stephenson; his three sisters Helen Ross, Brenda Crotty, and Josephine Mayer; and several grandchildren and great children, all of whom he dearly loved.In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
