CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Clarksville Young Professionals (CYP) welcomed Enoch Moeller, Site Hardware Operations Manager for the new Google data center, at their meeting Wednesday.
Moeller is currently working at Google in North Carolina but said he will be transferring to the Clarksville data center early next year. He talked about the construction at the Google site, which is the former location of Hemlock Semiconductor, and shared information on jobs and about Google.
Moeller said right now Google’s construction phase is on schedule and they are targeting opening the first facility sometime in the early part of 2019 depending on the construction schedule.
Talking about employment, Moeller said at this time there are some job postings for Clarksville that can be found on Google.com/jobs. They involve roles in environmental health and safety, facilities manager, facilities tech, with more becoming available throughout 2018 and closer to the end of this year depending in part when access to the facility becomes more available.
“The types of roles we generally hire for are typically focused on the technology side or hardware operations, data center technician roles, operations engineers and other types of technical positions,” said Moeller.
On the data center operations side, Google is looking for people with engineering, plant maintenance and industrial maintenance backgrounds. In the future there will also be postings for experienced people in industrial scale mechanical, electrical, building and control systems.
Another topic mentioned was the Google-funded initiative, Rolling Study Halls pilot program for the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System in partnership with Google and the Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Foundation. The program seeks to improve technology access with WiFi and extend learning to school buses.
Moeller said one of the reasons the current site was chosen was the close to 1,300 acres of property and as Google services continue to be in high demand it gives the company an opportunity to grow locally.
