CLARKSVILLE, TN — On June 10, the Customs House Museum & Cultural Center is hosting a special event honoring the diverse cultures, tribes, and communities of the Philippine Islands. Experience traditional song and dance performances that include Tinikling dancing by Hailey A. Osborne, Caroline Spicer and Faith Lowry; Janggay dancing from Getta Kerber and Emelia Green; singing from Marlow Amparo and much more. Authentic food tastings will follow the performances, along with a craft activity for children.

This event is being held in conjunction with one of the Museum’s newest exhibits, titled Pearl of the Orient: Celebrating the Early Cultures of the Philippines. Curated with members of our local Filipino community, this exhibit explores the various Indigenous cultures of the Philippines through languages, photographs, maps, clothing and other artifacts. It is on display in the Museum lobby and will be on view through July 23.

Pista sa Nayon: A Celebration of the Philippines kicks off this Saturday, June 10, at 11 a.m. in the Museum’s Turner Auditorium. “Pista sa Nayon” roughly translated from Tagalog, the native language of the Philippines, means “town festival.” For more information about exhibits and cultural events at the Museum, visit customshousemuseum.org.
