CLARKSVILLE, TN – On June 3, the Customs House Museum & Cultural Center will be transformed into an intimate jazz club for the third annual Jazz in June fundraising event. This year’s featured artist is Kat Anderson, a native of Ripley, Tennessee, just outside of Memphis.

Following the footsteps of her mother and grandmother, Kat started out singing in church. Even as a young girl, she showed signs of having amazing powerhouse vocals. She took her gospel roots and brought those skills into the genre of jazz and blues. Kat has been singing professionally for 13 years, with credits that include touring with The Bar-Kays, singing background for American jazz singer Wendy Moten, performing at the Memphis Grizzlies half-time show and singing on the Holland America Cruise Line. The Justus Brothers, a smooth, contemporary jazz supergroup from Memphis, featured her on one of their debut singles, a fresh arrangement of the Gnarls Barkley hit “Crazy.” The song debuted on Billboard’s Smooth Jazz Most Added list and reached #25 on SmoothJazz.com’s Top 100 Indie list.

Currently, she is the lead female singer for the B.B. King All Star Band at B.B. King’s Blues Club in downtown Memphis. They credit her as being their “Reigning Queen,” a title she continues to hold dear. She channels some of her inspiration from singers Natalie Cole, Whitney Houston and fellow Ripley native Tina Turner. Her repertoire includes a unique combination of classic standards and soulful interpretations of modern hits.

Jazz in June is a fundraising event full of live music, food, drinks and dancing. All proceeds go towards the Museum’s mission and work towards providing creative program opportunities, sharing artists’ work in new exhibits and preserving the history of Montgomery County through an ever-expanding collection.
