CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville Transit System (CTS) has once again turned its Spooky Special bus loose on the streets of the city. It’s the 21st year the Spooky Special has traveled throughout Clarksville on Halloween offering free rides to those who dare to board the bus.

There is no trick involved with the Spooky Special, and of course the treat is the free ride as CTS recognizes Halloween. Citizens can call CTS at 931-553-2429 to find out the route the Spooky Special will be on next.

How did the Spooky Special get so spooky? Well, you can thank Robert Neitzke, an art teacher at Clarksville Academy, and 14 of his students who spent several hours Tuesday decorating the bus for its scary tour around Clarksville. It’s the 13th year Neitzke and Clarksville Academy students have worked on painting the bus.

Neitzke talked about the excellent work of the students on the bus. “I try to pick 14 of Clarksville Academy’s finest art students from our department. The biggest problem is the time limit, we only have one day to paint it from 8:30 ‘till 2:00 and it’s a huge bus for that short of time,” said Neitzke.

According to Teresa Butts with the transit system there are a couple of reasons why they run the Spooky Special each year. “This just gives people who don’t ride the bus an opportunity to get on and ride at no charge. I think it’s good for morale here in Clarksville and the kids love it,” said Butts.
