CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Clarksville Transit System (CTS) is recognizing its hard-working employees with their Transit System Employee Appreciation Week.

CTS Transportation Director, Paul Nelson, said the week is a time that CTS celebrates their employees to say thank you for their dedication to the community and the City of Clarksville.

Each day this week, CTS employees will receive gifts, giveaways, and food from nine local businesses who have donated gift cards, gift baskets and more.  Every CTS employee will also get a free goodie bag.

Around 95 CTS employees, including bus operators, supervisors, dispatchers, mechanics, maintenance personnel, and office staff, will be a part of the celebration.

Nelson said dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic has been challenging for CTS.  “We have had to limit the number of seats and the way we allow people to board the buses.  There’s also additional cleaning and having to close our indoor facilities,” Nelson said.

He added that their bus operators have really stepped up to the challenge and they have been able to maintain full service throughout the whole pandemic.  The only exception to service came when Austin Peay State University shut down their campus and shuttle service was stopped at APSU.

CTS has moved on to the demonstration and interview phase with their final proposal candidates for their new software and hardware package which is something they have been working on for the past couple of years.

The biggest thing for passengers will be the bus locator APP that will be available for them to see in real time where their bus is, when it’s going to arrive at their location, and help them plan their trips. It will be a part of Google Transit.

“I’d like to say thank you to all of our employees that have worked so hard through all of this.  As soon as all of this is over, I encourage people to get out and use the bus system and enjoy the new perks that are coming with the new software system.  We’ll be looking to improve things as we move forward,” Nelson said.

Speaking of employees and employment, Nelson also said that once they move out of the COVID-19 pandemic CTS will be looking hire more bus operators.
