CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) and Clarksville Police Department (CPD) have issued a reminder to citizens to lock their vehicles.

Sandra Brandon, Public Information Officer for MCSO, said residents in the county are getting hit with another wave of vehicle break-ins.

Numerous neighborhoods in the county have seen a dramatic increase in personal property stolen out of vehicles. Criminals are car-hopping, which is when a person walks a neighborhood at night checking for unlocked vehicles.

Recent areas hit by car-hopping include Ivy Bend Circle, Ivy Brook Way, Lakeview Road, and Prestwicke Place.

CPD spokesman Jim Knoll said certain areas in the city have been targeted as well. Approximately 21 vehicle burglaries were reported over the weekend, most of which involved unlocked vehicles.

Two guns, military gear, iPads, wallets, money, and other personal items were stolen, primarily in the subdivisions off Hazelwood Rd., Tiny Town Rd., Clearwater Dr., Queensbury Dr., and Apache Way.

Report any suspicious activity and individuals in your neighborhood. Do not leave any valuables in your vehicle, especially firearms. Take the extra minute to secure your personal property and lock your vehicles, even if your vehicle is in your yard or driveway.

Protect yourself and your community. Deny criminals easy access to your possessions.
