CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Two people have been charged after police determined they were allegedly involved in a Craigslist vehicle scam.
According to arrest warrants, the victim told police she found a vehicle listed on Craigslist that she wanted to purchase and arranged to meet the sellers at her place of employment on Fort Campbell Blvd. on March 18.
After looking at the car, the victim agreed to purchase it for $1,600 and exchanged cash with the suspects, Stephen and Christina Pace.
The vehicle was left in the parking lot until the following day, at which time the victim attempted to access the car with the vehicle key that was given to her, but the key did not work.
She contacted the sellers about the issue, and Ms. Pace drove to the victim’s place of employment to pick her up and bring her to James Corlew to get a key made for the car.
After the victim left her work, a male suspect arrived and drove the vehicle she had just purchased out of the parking lot with a functioning key.
Thanks to surveillance footage at the store and the victim’s statement, police believe Mr. Pace to be the suspect who stole the car from the parking lot, according to arrest warrants.
Police made contact with Ms. Pace at James Corlew. She told the officer her name was Kristen April Anderson and said she did not know her social security number.
The title provided by the victim was signed by a Kristen Anderson, but police determined it was not legitimate and had been forged. The officer also discovered that Pace had lied about her identity by the giving the officer a fake name and date of birth.
Christina Pace was arrested and charged with theft, criminal impersonation, and falsifying auto titles. Her bond was set at $65,000.
ClarksvilleNow.com records show that Pace was also arrested approximately three months ago after allegedly leaving her then 1-year-old child alone in a vehicle that contained drugs and needles. Other past charges include DUI and contempt, according to booking log records.
Stephen Pace was transported to jail the next day. Outside the jail, the officer asked if he had any contraband and Pace handed the officer two bags of crystal meth.
He was charged with theft and simple possession. His bond was set at $26,000.
Booking log records show Pace has previous charges of shoplifting, theft, and burglary.
