CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Deputy Chief Charles F. Gray, more commonly known as ,Frankie, retired Friday, Aug 24, 2018 after 34 years with the Clarksville Police Department.
Gray is hanging up his Deputy Chief of Clarksville Police Department uniform for a new Sheriff of Stewart County uniform after recently winning the election for Sheriff in Stewart County.
Deputy Chief Gray was hired with the Clarksville Police Department on April 1, 1984 and quickly moved through the ranks to achieve the position of Deputy Chief on February 16, 2008.
Gray was selected Officer of the Year 1996 and 1998. He is also credited with starting the department’s horse patrol and student traffic awareness training class, supervising the Explorers program, and working with the S.W.A.T unit for three years. Her served as the unit’s commander for one of those three years.
The room was filled with family, friends, coworkers, and dignitaries saying goodbye and wishing him the best of luck in his new endeavor as Sheriff during the retirement ceremony Friday.
