CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Much to the neighbors’ confusion, Manning Heights was lined with Clarksville Police Department patrol cars on Monday to surprise 16-year-old Dylan Lawrence and welcome him home after his last round of radiation therapy early that morning.

The Montgomery Central junior was diagnosed with a terminal brainstem cancer in December. He has since been receiving radiation therapies to help lessen the severity of some of the symptoms, and Monday was his last round at Vanderbilt’s Ingram Cancer Center.

Dylan’s father works for the Clarksville Police Department, so some of his co-workers got together with Dylan’s mom Susan, and planned a surprise welcome along Manning Heights, a residential road that flanks the intersection of Cumberland Drive and South Riverside Drive.

CPD Officer Bryan Hughes, Capt. Chad Koyama, and Sgt. Johnny Ransdell led much of the coordination on CPD’s end for the surprise on Monday.

“We’re all family, and if there’s anything we can do to cheer somebody up, we do it,” Ransdell added.

“I’m feeling good,” Dylan said. “It’s just awesome that you all put this together, thank you.”

The Lawrence family is leaving Clarksville on Wednesday, and will be heading to Hawaii so Dylan can see the sea turtles, go surfing and whale watching.
