CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Fort Campbell’s estimated 6,400 civilian employees will have to get the COVID-19 vaccine, with the first deadline coming up next week.

The Pentagon on Monday sent out official word that all civilian Department of Defense employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by Nov. 22. This follows a previous order that all active-duty soldiers had to be vaccinated by Sept. 22.

The COVID-19 vaccination memo also includes a timeline with deadlines for the first vaccination.

In response to President Joe Biden’s Sept. 9 order that all federal employees get the vaccine, the memo explains that employees are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after getting their final dose of the vaccine. Those who aren’t yet vaccinated must meet the following deadlines in order to be fully vaccinated by Nov. 22:

  • Oct. 11: First dose deadline (if receiving Modema vaccine).
  • Oct. 18: First dose deadline (if receiving Comimaty/Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine).
  • Nov. 8: Second dose deadline (if receiving Modema and Comimaty/PfizerBioNTech vaccines).
  • Nov. 8: First (only) dose deadline (if receiving Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine).

DoD civilian employees are eligible to get the vaccine at any military vaccination site, the memo states. They can also get the vaccine at non-DoD sites, such as a pharmacy or health department location.

“Employees, including those who have already received COVID-19 vaccines, must be prepared to provide a copy of their COVID-19 vaccine record in order to meet forthcoming procedures for DoD COVID-19 vaccination verification,” the memo said.

“Vaccinating DoD civilian employees against COVID-19 will save lives and allow for the defense of our nation. Thank you for your focus on this critical mission,” the memo said.
