NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Tennessee Department of Health reported 505 positive cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) across the state on Sunday.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center has confirmed the second fatality in Tennessee, a patient with an underlying health condition from a neighboring county. The first fatality was also in Nashville, a 73-year-old man.

Nashville Mayor John Cooper ordered a “Safer at Home” directive for Metro Nashville and Davidson County due to the rising cases of COVID-19 in the county.

Montgomery County maintains three positive cases of the contagious virus. The county has several testing facilities open, but the Montgomery County Health Department urges residents to reach out to their primary care provider prior to coming in for testing.

Citizens who are sick and exhibiting fever, cough, and shortness of breath should remain at home and contact their doctor.

In Montgomery County, the first confirmed case of the virus was reported at Tennova Medical Center. Since then, two additional cases were reported, including a student at East Montgomery Elementary School.

Both City Mayor Joe Pitts and County Mayor Jim Durrett have issued a local state of emergency. Local government officials encourage all residents to use their best judgement during the next eight weeks. Practice social distancing, avoid congregating in groups of 10 or more, and stay home if you’re sick.
