CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The Montgomery County Commission voted Monday to purchase land to establish a training complex for Montgomery County Public Safety Agencies. The 326 acre site is at 2275 Dotsonville Road.
The property which will be purchased for $1.9 million will be used by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Medical Service (EMS), Emergency Management Agency EMA), and the Volunteer Fire Service.
Montgomery County Sheriff John Fuson talked about what a training complex will mean to the sheriff’s office.
“The sheriff’s office has a need for outside range capabilities for our firearms training program, search and rescue and K-9 program. It’s a big step forward for public safety in the county” said Fuson.
Fuson added that that the EMS is planning to have some urban and rural training on the site and the EMA will be doing fire training for the county’s volunteer fire service at the complex.
Commissioner Brandon Butts who serves the Dotsonville area was asked about any opposition from area residents to the proposed training complex. Butts said early on there were some people opposed to the plan but he and Sheriff Fuson talked with residents and that once they heard the facts “that turned the opposition into pretty much nothing,” Butts said.
