CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Montgomery County may not be one of the counties planning on making a bid to host the Tennessee State Fair. With the recent announcement that a state panel is considering moving the site of the Tennessee State Fair there was talk that another county might be interested in hosting the fair in 2019.
There was discussion about Montgomery County looking into the possibility of considering being a site for the fair but after a fair committee meeting Thursday, Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett said he didn’t think the county was in a position to compete for the state fair, but the fair committee wants to look at the possibility of trying to create another fairgrounds.
“Maybe bring back the North Tennessee State Fair when the Jaycees had it which was a very successful fair,” said Durrett. County Commissioner John Gannon has been elected chairman of the fair committee and Durrett said Gannon may look for some potential pieces of property that would have the infrastructure to support a site for the fairgrounds.
