CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Montgomery County cut the ribbon Tuesday, July 15 on the Spur Line Trailhead Park. The park is named after the railroad spur that once went through the area and into downtown Clarksville and ties into the City’s walking trails and sidewalks along Union Street.
There is a pavilion in the park located at 2nd and Union Streets which officials say is an architectural tribute to the Historic Dog Hill community and the railroad bridge trusses that had such an impact and footprint in the area.
Future plans are for a historical marker to be placed under the pavilion and a possible water fountain to be completed and funded by a local Boy Scout for his Eagle Scout Project.
The site was unveiled Tuesday, just under an acre has approximately 20 different tree and plant species spread throughout the park.
The final construction cost after completion of the historical marker on the county park will be slightly less than $670,000 with just about all of the cost paid for by a grant.
