CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The Montgomery County Commission passed a resolution Monday requesting improvements to Warfield Blvd (State Route 374) in Clarksville. The resolution being presented to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), specifically identifies the area of the roadway between just south of Dunbar Cave Rd. to Madison St.

The county resolution states that the area is already experiencing deficiency problems which are leading to increased congestion, delays and potential environmental hazards. The request is being submitted through the Clarksville Urbanized Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CUAMPO) to TDOT.

Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett talked about how he and Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts are working together for improvements to the roadway. “To really get the ball started both the city and the county passed resolutions asking for TDOT to fund that portion of the road and hopefully we can make that project become a reality,” said Durrett.

Stan Williams, Transportation Director with CUAMPO, said the proposed improvements for Warfield Blvd/SR 374 from south of Dunbar Cave Rd. to Madison St. are in the 2045 Metropolitan Transportation Plan.

“This is a very first step with preliminary studies to be conducted which will take a couple of years. It’s in the very early stages of seeing this project getting started,” Williams said.

The current work taking place on Warfield Blvd. by TDOT between Dunbar Cave Rd. and Stokes Rd. to widen the roadway to five lanes is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
