CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Montgomery County Commissioners presented their 2016 Legislative Agenda to members of the local state legislative delegation Tuesday. The delegation is made up of State Representatives Curtis Johnson, Joe Pitts and Jay Reedy. State Senator Mark Green was not able to attend the presentation.
Each year the Legislative Liaison Committee of the County Commission prepares a “wish list” of sorts for the legislators that they will hopefully consider bringing before the Tennessee General Assembly. Items on the agenda are some of those the commission feels the citizens of Montgomery County would like to have action taken on.
Some of the items on the legislative agenda included a number of road projects in Montgomery County that commissioners would like to have funded by the Tennessee Department of Transportation. The expansion of broadband and internet services to residents of Montgomery County who do not currently have those services was another of the items.
Also discussed was a proposal to introduce legislation to place an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in private schools. Right now Tennessee does not have legislation addressing the placement of AEDs in nonpublic schools.
There was talk about continued support for a joint resolution establishing a Tennessee Hall of Fame in Montgomery County to give recognition to the many people who have achieved greatness in their lives and brought fame and fortune to themselves as well as the State.
Port Royal State Park’s standing as a sub-park under Dunbar Cave was also brought up at the meeting. Port Royal is the only state park in Tennessee that once operated as a standalone park and then it was placed under Dunbar Cave’s control for maintenance, funding and manpower.
The Tennessee General Assembly is scheduled to open its 2016 session in January.
