CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW)- The Montgomery County Commission held their informal meeting on Monday, Jan. 6 at 6 p.m.

On their agenda, were several items for discussion including one that will complete the trifecta of emergency response at Industrial Park.

A resolution was read that specified allowing a 0.13 acre of land owned by Montgomery County to be donated to the City of Clarksville for the development of a City of Clarksville Police Precinct.

The Precinct would be located in Industrial Park in close proximity, northwest, to  the Clarksville Fire Rescue station.

The land is described as a ‘sliver of land.’

“During the Hankook developmental phases, the EMS station and fire station were developed,” said Frank Tate, executive director of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Industrial Development Board (IDB). “When the IDB deeded that property over to the city on the development of the fire station, they looked at the development of a potential police precinct in that area. … This is better access in my opinion.”

The County Commission will vote on the resolutions on Monday, Jan. 13

Also Discussed:

  • The Language Immersion Program that will be housed at the Emmanuel Life Center, that the Clarksville Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) has asked for funds to purchase, will be revisited in 30 days.

The $4 million purchase for the new location of the CMCSS Spanish Immersion Program was deferred when the vote to pass CMCSS construction projects was voted on in December 2019.

An appraisal, building inspection, and survey of the property to make sure the building is ‘sound and intact,” was proposed.

Director of School Dr. Millard House II addressed the Commission and said a little more time was needed to complete those processes and documentation would be provided.

  • A resolution to vote on the construction of a new building for the Montgomery County Animal Care and Control was read.  A 15-acre plot in the 500 block of  Needmore Road has been selected as the possible new site of a 35,000 square foot facility that will include: space to care for more than 250 animals, separate quarters for intake, adoption and proper separation of animals. No commissioners had questions.
